Charlottsville in Patrick Co.?

I am researching Samuel P. Boyd. His Death Certificate shows Charlott(e)sville, Patrick Co., VA as his birthplace on June 29, 1859. I cannot find this town. Is this an error or did this town exist in the 1800s?
