Mike, Charlottesville VA is an independent city in VA, however it is located within the confines of Albemarle county.

Remember the info on death certificates is only as good as the memory of the person giving the info. After 30 plus years of doing this, I have seen many mistakes on death certificates. The person giving the info may or maynot have even been a relative.

I had an example in my family where the death certificate on my great grandfather stated he was born in PA, after years of PA research I found he was born in Pittsylvania county VA. Remember not everything on these death records is correct. I would look both in Charlottesville and Patrick co VA and in Albarmale county
