I have a John Caldwell/Coldwell who sold 300 acres on Vaughn Creek in Prince Edward County, VA in 1782, land which had been sold to him 20 years prior by his father (I presume), John Caldwell/Coldwell. John Sr, purchased 2,230 acres in 1755 and then systematically sold chunks of it off - looks like to his sons and sons-in-law... to Thomas Armstrong in 1758 507 acres; to John Caldwell Jr, in 1762 300 acres; to Thomas Caldwell in 1762 300 acres; to David Caldwell in 1764 300 acres; to William Findley in 1765 430 acres. I did not make a record of the further disposition of the land to Armstrong or Findley; but John Caldwell sold out in 1782 and David Caldwell sold out in 1792. And from a bit murkey deed record, I concluded that Thomas' 300 acres were sold by John and David in 1787. I believe this Thomas to have died in 1774, leaving his estate to his brother John. I am interested in this group because I believe my ggg grandfather - Thomas Coldwell of Hawkins County, TN - to have originated with the Prince Edward/Charlotte Cty VA Coldwell's. Does this connect with anyone?
