Thanks for responding. I will put into regular mail --- to the family searching for Mattie Kate --- your message. Perhaps their computer will be more compatible with yours. Mattie Kate Johnson attended Ingleside School and the High Rock Baptist Church in Rice. She is spoken of as being of Prince Edward and Nottoway Counties. Her sister Ada was of "Prince Edward County". Her brother Cleveland lived in Roanoke as an adult. Her sister Pearl died at age 20. Her parents would have been children born into families which had been slaves. Depending on their ages, they themselves may have been free born. Mattie Kate, born ca 1887 died in 1922. If you feel that there is material about this family in the sources you have, please let me know. Thank you again.
