SUSAN SOPHIA MOFFETT (1748 - 1819)
Looking for info on SUSAN SOPHIA MOFFETT, born in 1748 probably in Northern Virginia (but possibly in NJ), and who in ~1771-2 married the Rev. DANIEL HOFF (1746 Raritan, NJ - 1802 VA), presumably following the death of his first wife, LAURA TITUS, with whom he reportedly had 3 sons afte their documented marriage on 15 Dep 1769 in NJ. SUSAN and DANIEL were believed to have been married in VA shortly after he moved to VA from NJ in theearly 1770s, and his first wife presumably died. S USAN's husband, DANIEL HOFF, died in 1802 somewhere near Manassas, Prince William Co., VA, having left SUSAN with some 7 children. SUSAN SOPHIA MOFFETT's father was the Rev. WILLIAM MOFFETT, as noted in a May 1815 obituary of Susan's eldest son, ENOCH HOFF (1773 - 1815) in Washington Co., OH. It indicated that WILLIAM MOFFETT was a minister (denomination unknown) and that he apparently made the move from Alexandria, VA to Washington Co., OH with his daughter and her children in 1805 or somethime later. He does not show up on the 1810 Census in Washington Co., OH, so it is believed that he died there in Washington Co., OH between 1805 - 1810. SUSAN SOPHIA MOFFETT HOFF died in Washington Co., OH on 16 July 1819, as noted in an obituary in the local newspaper, but her exact burial site in Washington Co., OH is unknown, as is her father's. She may be in an unmarked grave in Mound Cem., in Marietta, OH.
I am a descendant of WILLIAM MOFFETT and is daughter, SUSAN SOPHIA MOFFETT, and her and DANIEL HOFF's son, JONATHAN F. HOFF (1775 Pr. Wm. Co., VA - 1812, Fearing Twp., Washington Co., OH), and his son, POWELL HOFF (1801 VA - 1870 Dallas Co., IA), and his son, JOHN H. HOFF (1830 Chesterhill, Athens (now Morgan) Co., OH - 1909 Dallas Co., IA), and his son, JOHN CASSIUS HOFF (1875 Dallas Co., IA - 1960 Des Moines, IA), and his son, JOHN RICHARD HOFF (1909 DSM, IA - 1970 DSM, IA), and me, JOHN SCOTT HOFF (1946 DSM, IA - now in Chicago).
