"Don" Ramon Valadez

My grandfather was named "Don" Ramon Valadez, and was a light skinned Mexican. He married Margarita Rodriguez (married name), who was a dark skinned Yaqui. They lived in Guemerco, New Mexico, to work the coal mines. Story goes that he came through Texas as a young man from Mexico, fleeing for his life amid the chaos and turmoil around 1910. My father is Guillermo (William) Valadez, married to Trinidad Padilla, who now live in San Jose, California. Other children were Mago, Frank, Sadie, Matilda, and Tony. The only surviving are Sadie (Greeley, CO) and Tony (Alameda, Calif.). Story goes that my grandfather was educated and could read and write very well, so all others in the town brought him the letters and papers sent to them so he could tell them what they said. This is how he got the honor of being called "Don Ramon."

Jerry Valadez-Fresno, California
