Jennifer,
I believe that the Thomas you are referring to was my great grandfather. I don't have all the info here at work, but I believe he had three children, one of which was my grandfather James Van Winkle. I think there must have been two other siblings, a brother and sister. I have been searching for the origins of his father Isaac and Agnes who moved to IA in the 20's I believe. I have a quilt that was made as a gift for Agnes and Thomas as they boarded the train to go back to Indiana for a visit. The quilt was dated 1845, but I found out that the railroad didn't arrive in that area till around 1848.
If you have any information to share I'd love to hear about it. I live in Texas and it's too far from Iowa to do much research.
