Hello Michelle
I cannot yet identify your James Samuel Waddington but I think we ought to be in touch. My wife is descended from Waddingtons from the Whitehaven area of Cumberland (now Cumbria), and several of that branch of the family emigrated to South Africa and worked in the De Beer diamond mines. Two later played first class cricket out there!
The Cumbria/South Africa connection seems too coincidental not to be related somehow!
