The Name Holland came from Sigward Lonsworth that came from
Holland and settle in England. he then took the name holland, because that is where he came from. He then took Holland name, and named his small village Up- Holland. Lord Sigward Holland had a son Mattew Holland and his son Robert de Holland settled in up-holland where their name was spelled DeHolland-meaning, of -Holland-A Place. The Hollands once Had a castle but it lays in ruins out side of up-Holland west of Wigan. All this information is listed in the Domesday book which referers to a log book of all land in the U.K. This family has Fasintating history.There is a book by Bernard Holland C.B. Its Highly recommeded reading by all Holland Researchers.
