I'm looking for any info on my great grandfather, William Matthew Wallace, born June 25, 1883 in Texas and his family. It came down through our family that Wm M. married Leona Houston (alt. last name: Hall) and had 2 children with her; my grandmother Ellen Leona and my grandaunt Evaline. Family lore has it that Leona died in childbirth, delivering a stillborn child. Due to Wm M. being crippled from infantile paralysis (polio) some time after Leona's death, (I believe when my grandmother was 6 - 7 y/o) he placed both daughters into Buckner's Orphanage in Irving, TX. When I began researching him, I was fortunate to find his death certificate, filled out by my grandmother. On the death cert it indicated his mother's name was Ola. I was confused though when I discovered him living in Bell County, TX, in the 1910 US Census,(http://content.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7884&iid=TXT624_1530-0035&fn=William+M&ln=Wallace&st=r&ssrc=&pid=27654376), and his wife was listed as Ola W. Wallace. I'm certain the family info on his wife, Leona, is correct though, as both my grandmother and myself were named after her. I was also stunned to discover that there were 2 sons of his listed as well - William L.(born abt 1906)and Arlis E. (born abt 1909). No-one in our family ever knew about these boys and I can only guess that they were fostered out, possibly to other Wallace family members. About Leona; the only thing that I know about her is she was travelling in a wagon train with her parents when she was approximately 6 - 7 y/o - I believe the wagon train was going from either, the present day Houston or San Antonio area to Dallas. The wagon train was attacked by indians and her parents were killed. My grandmother could not remember if her mother's last name was Houston and she was fostered by a family named Hall or vice versa - her last name was Hall and she was fostered by a family named Houston. I'm against a brick wall with it, unable to go any further. If any of this rings any bells for someone, I'd greatly appreciate any assitance. Thanks much! Notify Administrator about this message?
