I have found a marriage record for Abner Johnson to Sarah Jane Tempy on 4 May 1852 in Martin Indiana. I know that there was an Abner Johnson who was married to Eleanor Wallace, d. of Sarah Horrall and William Wallace. Sarah and William were the children of Rev. John Wallace, and William Horrall, early settlers in Daviess IN in 1808. Additionally, I think that after Eleanor Wallace-Johnson died in 1849, Abner then married Sarah Jane Tempy in 1852. As I have not been able to determine that there were two Abner Johnson's in Indiana in this 1808-1855 timeframe, I believe that this is one and the same man. Abner died not too long after that marriage and then this Sarah Jane (Tempy)Johnson married my ancestor Caswell Cooper in Feb of 1870 in Indiana. I believe that I have found this Sarah Jane Tempy-Johnson-Cooper in Butler MO in 1900 census living with her daughter Eliza Ann Griffin. I also believe that there is a Lavinia in the Caswell Cooper h/h with Sarah Jane, stepmother in the 1870 Martin Indiana Census. The 1870 census info on Ancestry.com is incorrect as it shows the surname for my ancestor George as Walker as well as his siblings Esek, Sarah and William. My ancestors full name was George Walker Cooper, and Mary Francis, Esek, Sarah and William were his full siblings and the children of Caswell and first wife Mary Ann Bolton. I further believe that the 'Serena' in the h/h on this 1870 Martin/IN census is really Lavinia Wallace and the daughter of Abner Johnson and Eleanor Wallace. I know that my ancestor Caswell Cooper died probably in IN soon after the Civil War from complications from measles. For some reason his 2nd wife Sarah Jane then moved to Butler/MO taking some of her stepchildren with her, including my George W. Cooper, William, and possibly some of the children of Abner Johnson as well. She applied for a military pension there in MO and states that she was the widow of both Abner Johnson and Caswell Cooper. If anyone is looking for Abner Johnson, Eleanor Wallace, their children, or Sarah Jane Tempy and any children she may have had, I would love to talk to you and see if I have figured this out correctly.
