Corra,
A 12 marker test from a Warren of this suspected line through Family Tree is not sufficient enough even if you do have a confirmed DNA sample from a proven Warren line to compare it with.
However, family Tree DNA was running specials this Summer and from what I was told by a spokesperson, they have lowered their test kit pricing. The 25 marker test can now be purchased for the 12 marker price of $99. And even better, the 37 marker test is available for, I believe, $149. The prices may have even gone down from that! A 37 marker test of a known Warren male would definitely confirm/disprove your suspicions.
My father matched with the Warren line on the 25 marker test and his surname is not Warren. He has an adopted name. He was born and raised in Pecan Gap, TX, just 5 miles east from a line of Warrens who lived in Wolfe City, TX and 5 miles southeast from a line of Warrens who lived in Lamar county,TX. From what I have read on this forum and on Rootsweb these Warrens from both locations are related but I can't get anyone from these lines to communicate with me via email to confirm that and to which male they connect to! I have desperately TRIED to contact the main Warren researchers from this forum who are also heavily envolved with this DNA testing and not ONE will email me back!! I don't get it?
However, one man has emailed me who is related to the Warrens from Wolfe City and has kindly offered to donate his DNA for comaprison but his grandmother was from the Warren line and that would exclude him since his surname is not Warren.
We have upgraded my father's test to a 67 marker test and hope this will confirm that he did indeed come from the Warren line. Results should be in the first week of October.
I just want everyone who's considering DNA testing to know the limitations of a 12 marker test. I wish someone had told me before we ordered our test, it was no problem to upgrade, it just added weeks to the results. So to all those Warren males who want to test their Y-DNA, purchase a test with at least 25 markers, otherwise you're just wasting money and time.
And to any other Warren males who have DNA tests available through any DNA company and are from the Texas Warrens from Wolfe City, Lamar County or any Warrens from East Texas, please contact me.
Regards,
Tracy Herndon Prior
