Hazel M. West, 85, St. Joseph, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 at a local health care facility.
Mrs. West was born Oct. 1, 1922, in St. Joseph. She married James West Jr., Dec. 3, 1940, who survives of the home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington and Irene Margeret (GaHagan) Herring; two sisters, Buelah Dolman, and Lucille Samuels; brother, George Herring; son-in-law, Roger Long; and grandson, Chris Griswold.
Additional Survivors: seven daughters, Mary Gray, Norma Brown (John), Alice Coats (Joe), Joann Hall all of St. Joseph, Susan Long of Mound City, Mo., Carol Clark of St. Joseph, and Margie Cowley (Dave)of Horton, Kan.; two sons, James West (Mary), and Marvin West (Peggy) both of St. Joseph; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. West was a member of St. James Church. She was a loving mother, liked to bake and be with her family, enjoyed the holidays, and loved to read.
Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. The Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday. Parish Rosary: 5 p.m. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. James Catholic Church.
