Joseph G. Washington, born in Tennessee, was one of 33 men born in Tennessee who died on March 6, 1836 at the Alamo when the Texans lost their battle for Independence from Mexico at the Franciscan Mission in San Antonio, Texas. There were many men from other places including England and Ireland who died in that battle. The Mexicans allowed a woman, Jane Long, and a Negro, John, to live so they could report the events of the battle. There is a large plaque on the wall of the Mission naming all those who were in that Battle of the Alamo and where they were born. It is a very spiritual place. Texas finally won it's Independence at the Battle of San Jacinto commanded by Sam Houston with the help of "The Yellow Rose of Texas". Evelyn Rowland Notify Administrator about this message?
