There is no evidence in the U.K. to support this theory.
We are still trying to establish exactly who Richard Washington was who is recorded in Virginia in 1639.
There are a number of possibilities and from an historical perspective, we are currently researching the Ardwick le Street (Yorkshire) branch of the family, where a Richard Washington was Treasurer of the Lame Soldiers in 1625 and his son Richard was a Batchelor of Divinity at the period in question.
A John Washington is listed in a recently discovered family pedigree in Leeds for this branch of the family. He is listed as drowned 1660, the son of Robert Washington of Leeds, son of Darcy Washington, brother of Richard Washington, Batchelor of Divinity (ob. 1654).
Darcy and Richard Washington, were both sons of Richard Washington, Treasurer of the Lame Soldiers (Charity for soldiers returning from Virginia wounded after the 1622 massacre in Virginia and elsewhere) who can be traced back to the Ardwick le Street (near Doncaster) branch of the family who can be traced back to the Westmoreland Washington, and in turn back to the Washingtons of the Original Washington, near Durham, in North East England.

To follow this family pedigree you need a copy of "The Washington Family in Britain" by Margot Johnson, M.A., F.L.A. (Durham University, retired)

If you require a copy, Email me at Family Haritage International (a not-for-profit organisation) Email; Webmaster@AncestryUK.com
