Seeking parents of Irvilla Gates. And, anyone who can tell me names of histories and how to access them on Canandaigua, New York and surrounding areas.

Seeking to connect with those who are ancestors of Thomas Jefferson Wheeler, born in 1809, likely in Steuber County, NY. Married Irvilla Gates. We think Thomas J. was the son of Jonas Wheeler and Jane Coburn but cannot prove it, even though Jonas awarded a share of his estate to Thomas J.

We suspect Irvilla (often spelled Ervilla and Arvilla) was the daughter of Parley W. C. Gates, but have no solid info to prove this. So, we seek info on each member of the family of: Parley W. C. Gates, born about 1800 in New York. Married Betsey whose last name may or may not have been Saber. Parley W.C. and wife, Betsey, are buried in Livingston County, Michigan. Parley W.C. Gates was adopted at age 14 by Parley Gates and wife Orpha in Ontario County, NY at which time the boy’s name was changed to Parley W.C. Gates. Seeking his name and parents before the adoption.
Parley W.C. and wife, Betsey, lived in Oakland County, Michigan in 1830’s – 1850’s. They had following children (according to 1850 Census):
Mary Jane who married James Carothers (sometimes listed as Crathers, Carouthers, Carathers), Sarah M., Ophra, Sabra, Clark, and Warren who died at age 2. We also suspect Irvilla (or Ervilla, Arvilla) Gates was their daughter, born is 1820 in Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY.

Any information on any of these or their families will be most appreciated. You may Contact Me at stroon@netdoor.com
