Cherokee Indian

I was told that the whipple side of my tree has Cherokee Indian in the lineage. My mother tells me that her father had the Coal black hair, High Cheek Bones (I also have fairly high cheek bones), and in the summer got so dark tanned like Indians would. Would anyone have any idea where or how many generations back the Indian started on the Whipples? My grandfather was William Russell Whipple and his father was Charles Edward Whipple and I dont have any more generations past that. I am trying to figure out how much Indian blood could possibly still be in me.
