Have you utilized any of the free internet sites to search for your family? Also, ancestry.com is a great source of information. Although it is a subscription site, they offer two weeks for free at various times during the year. I checked some census records and found the following in Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga Co OH: Clark D. Whipple age 33 (so born c. 1897), he and both parents b. OH; married to Norene H. age 33, she and both parents also b. OH. They were age 26 and 25 respectively when they married (so probably married about the year 1923, but apparently not in Cleveland - no record of a marriage license there). The interesting thing about this Clark is that his occupation is "musical director" for a radio broadcasting program. They are renting their home for $85/mo at 2417 Overlook Road. This is probably the same Clark Whipple who was in Chicago in the 1920 census, a boarder, occ: musician at the Hotel Sherman. Then, if you go to the Social Security Death Index at rootsweb: http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi you'll find him listed: Clark Whipple, gives dob and dod, resided NY, but SSN issued in Ohio. His Social Security application should provide some wonderful clues. If you believe this is your grandfather, you can print out the SS-5 application and send in the mail, or click on the shopping cart to order online. If this is him, is it possible that he and Norene divorced, and if so, did she marry a Smith? If so, I have a little add'l information. E-mail me back. A google search of "doc whipple" yielded some information too. Hope some of this helps. Judy Davison Notify Administrator about this message?
