I am researching my family history and have come upon a puzzle...... I need any information about a Charles Wilkinson born in West Virginia about 1873. He is my husband's great grandfather. Rumor has it that Charles went to live with an "Uncle Ben" Wilkinson from Harrison Co West Virginia. (not sure how he is related though) as a teen and according to Ben's oldest son Harry, Charles "adopted" the name of Wilkinson when Charles was living with them. According to the 1880 census he wasn't living there yet and 1900 census he wasn't living there either...so probably lived with him between the 2 censuses. I did find on the 1880 Census that a Charles Wilkinson age 8,(birth year the same) was living with an another Wilkinson...L.J. Wilkinson age 22. Only listed as "Borders" with a C.M. Farrer. Upon further investigation I am thinking (which may or may not be correct)that...... L.J. Wilkinson is the daughter of David Almagrow Wilkinson and Ann Mary Older from Kanawha Co. WV known as on the 1860 Census as 2nd child...Louisa J born 1858. On the 1870 Census, still lives with her parents David and Ann, but is known as... the 2nd child is Gennette same birth year... but on the 1880 census, she is not listed living with her dad. (Her Mom has died and Father is remarried) But there is a person known as L.J. Wilkinson living with a C.M. Farrer and his wife Louisa A.......Louisa J Wilkinson has an aunt from her mother's side known as a Louise A. Older (poss. now a Farrer?) But listed with LJ Wilkinson is a Charles Wilkinson age 8...He is listed as being born in W VA, a line thru there the father is from, and mother was born in VA. Which was technically Virginia then, but is now considered WV. Did L.J. Wilkinson have a baby around age 15?? and was that baby's name Charles??? If my question is true... When Louisa J's mother died in 1876, that would have left Louisa with a 1 1/2 to 2 yr old child and I can see being sent to live with an Aunt. I don't have much else to go off of so any information will be very appreciated. Thanks! Notify Administrator about this message?
