I have just managed to find out that my great-grandfather, James William Wilkinson, was born on 24 Feb 1869 on Lower Albion Street in Manchester. His parents were Joseph Wilkinson, an organ builder, and Ann Wilkinson (formerly McGuire). I have not been able to find any information about Joseph or Ann --- my great-great grandparents. There seem to have been lots of Joseph Wilkinsons in Lancashire, but none in Manchester (the principal city in Lancashire). Is anyone familiar with these Wilkinsons?? What I've discovered about my great-grandfather (so far) is at: http://lordoflucies.com/tng/getperson.php?personID=I19&tree=Walsh It's interesting that he managed to get from Manchester to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was a machinist on the inter-island steamship Claudine. Somehow he met my great-grandmother, from a well-to-do Swiss family (related to the Bally Shoe family). But managed to die of syphilis in the Oahu Insane Asylum --- no politically correct names in those days! --- in 1909. If anyone has any clues or information, I'd be most appreciative. Kind regards, Craig Wilkinson Walsh In sunny Worcestershire, England Notify Administrator about this message?
