I do know that some of the "Hale" family anscestors were married to an Indian. But, I've never heard the last name as "Hales". They lived in Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri. Part of my family lived in N.C. and Va. But, my papers are not before me right now so not sure if it was Hale or Phillips from those places. I went to an Indian Pow-Wow in Grant, Alabama June 2nd. I was told by those who enroll members in the Cherokee nation that Wolfe is a prominant Cherokee name. I've been researching since 1977 and have gotten nowhere. So, hoping the Wolfe name pulls up something. Until lately, I've not heard that surname connected with my Loman family. Here is what I know... My Loman anscestor (do not know name) left N.C. on a train coming to Texas, when the Civil War started. The day after they arrived In Hillsboro, Texas, my GrGrandfather, George Franklin Loman was born. He was born 11 June 1861. Four years later, his parents both died at the same time of a great tradgedy. I have been told that neighbors crucified both of them in their front yard because one of them was an Indian. The children hid out in a cellar until everyone was gone. One of my relatives says it was 14 years later when both parents died and not 4 years. If that is the case, how come they were not on the 1870 census ?? So, I think the 4 years must be correct. This part of my family has been a brick wall for years.
