Nicholas is, of course, a name used by the Lancashire Worthingtons: in the 15th and 16th centuries, by the Worthingtons of Shevington in particular (which explains why certain websites suggest that Nicholas W of Connecticut was a 'Shevington' Worthington). Nicholas Worthingtons occur in the 16th century too in Manchester and Standish ... and in the 17th century in Ashton-under-Lyne, Leigh, Melling, Standish and Upholland. Of course, the Birmingham Nicholas could be a 'Lancashire' Worthington, but because of the proximilty of Birmingham to Worthington (Leicestershire),I suggested he is more probably a 'Leicestershire' one!
