Hello all, I am trying to find the unit that my Wife's Grandfather was assigned to. I just received his Final Payment Work Sheet from the NPRC and have some questions on it. First off, here is what I know about her Grandfather. His name was Paul Richard Cooley. He was born in 1919 in Brooklyn, NY and passed away in 1974 in San Diego. His widow (My wife's Grandmother) is still alive, but from the brief talks I have had with her she does not remember much. We will be visiting her the end of the month so if there are any photos I can get my hands on of him in uniform I will post them then. He was in the service from August 6th, 1941 through November 25th, 1945. He was discharged as a Sergeant and according to his widow, "he was a mechanic in the air force". They were married on 20 February 1944, so he was in the states during that time. My Wife's Dad remembers Paul talking about being stationed in North Africa, but other than that he does not have any other info. Here are my questions on the Final Payment Work Sheet: 1. Under the typed name and serial number and above his home address is the following, "AAF-F W 29 CO" Is this a unit designation or what does it mean? 2. Under Previous Organization (Or Place) is the following " RS then either a check mark or a 2 then FT. DIX" Would this be a holding unit until he was discharged? 3. Hon. Disch. by Reason of: "RR1-1" What does this mean? Thanks in advance, Raymond Gross Notify Administrator about this message?
