Hi, No expert but...he may have registered his discharge in the county/state where he was drafted or enlisted which might be different than where he lived afterwards or before. You might try the State Archives in the state he lived in or was drafted/enlisted in for discharge records. Or as I understand it, sometimes men didn't register their discharges with a county or state.

If he is/did get VA benefits, you could check with them. Or any military orgs he belonged to after his retirement from the military.
