Has anyone got family members who were involved in transporting AUSTRALIAN COASTWATCHERS for reconaissance behind enemy lines. First there was the COASTWATCHERS group then a new group was formed called the M SPECIAL. my father SYDNEY STONEHOUSE was in both groups. he went onto an island in the SOLOMONS (a group of 29 men) to report on enemy movements/numbers/supplies etc via radio to PORT MORESBY. There were 65,000 enemy on the island. Only 15 of the group survived. They were picked up by AMERICANS and travelled by PT boat to somewhere in Timor. there were photos taken of these men on the deck of the boat by one of the crew. Dad will be 90 next year and i would love to get any info, copies of photos, memories etc together for the occassion, and to add to family history. Notify Administrator about this message?
