Hi Elizabeth, I wasn't lucky enough to find his partial enlistment information which would have given his ASN.

So...other options to maybe find some military history for him:

If he was receiving VA benefits, contact the VA.

I don't know if you'll be able to find information from the State Archives of either or both VA and WV without his ASN, but you could ask if they have any record of his enlistment and or discharge just using his name, birth date and state he was born in and/or may have enlisted or was drafted in.

If he had a military burial, check with the organization that helped with that. They should have some information.

Also, check with the Sexton of the Cemetery and the funeral home that handled his burial.
