Hi Elizabeth, I am SO HAPPY for you. You are on your way. Did they happen to tell you any more information such as his ASN? If the VFW provided the military info etc? Did the VA pay for part of his burial? If so, I would think one of those should have his ASN.

Has anyone told you about the NPRC? If not, you can write to "hopefully" get his military records. But be aware, there was a huge fire in 1973 that destroyed millions of records. So you might not have any luck but sure worth a try. Here is the site. Gather all the information you can before writing to them. Complete the Standard Form 180.

Also, if you know what cemetery and what state he is buried (which you probably do), you can post his information on this site and then "Request A Photo". If there is a volunteer in the area, they may be able to get a picture of his gravesite for you. His headstone may have some information on it.

Again...BEST OF LUCK!! And keep DIGGING. It took me two years to get my uncle's information...not totally complete, but much more than our family ever knew.
