Hi, On his final payment statement, does it have his ASN (Army Serial Number)?

Have you tried writing for his records from the NPRC? If not, fill out the Standard Form 180 in the site below. Have your dad sign it. Try to put as much information on it as you can. Hopefully his records did not burn in the big fire of 1973. It was only supposed to have affected names beginning with H - Z.

Is he getting VA benefits? If so, contact the VA.

Another option is to contact the County Clerk and/or State Archives of the state he was inducted in and/or discharged in. Hopefully he registered his discharge when he got out.
