Hi Kerri,

I believe Jesse’s father was a John York b. between 1790/1794, but not the one b. 1775 in Exeter and married to Melcher 18 Dec 1802 in Exeter. Jesse’s father, John, married Mary Elizabeth Holbrook after her previous husband, Isaac York died. Isaac was John’s brother.

Isaac and John, appear to be the children of a Richard York of New Hampshire moving to Fayette, Livermore, Bath and Brunswick. Siblings of Jesse are most probably the following: Mercy Marden, Charles Dana/or Dean and Capt. Asa.

At this point, I think that Colby W. is a son of another brother of John and Isaac--George D. and his wife Mary. So to recap, I have in George D’s family, Abizer, Mercy, George D. [Jr.], Abigail, Asa, Charles L., Colby W., Louisa W., and possibly Jesse. The death of George D, most probably between 1843 and before 1850 left the children in Mary’s care and perhaps they were portioned out to their uncles at this point in time. This area needs a lot of work to clarify.

Your thought that John York m. Melcher was the son of John Carr York of Exeter, NH has support.

Elizabeth Holbrook’s parents appear to be Captain Jesse Holbrook and a Pennel. Can’t confirm Lucy as first name. Elizabeth may have a brother Jesse. Captain Jesse Holbrook may be the son of Capt. Jesse Holbrook and Ruth Dyer of Wellfleet, MA and Brooksville, Hancock, ME.

Would be more than willing to share all that I have on the family. Would love to have any details you have found on the family in this area.

Contact me by email if you’d like additional details and sources.

Dick York
