Good morning, Boyd, According to my records, you are my great-granduncle. Since I poseted my message awhile back, I have been corresponding with distant cousins in North Carolina, and have discovered much more about my York family. Judson Crow has kindly provided me with much information, and once armed with names and dates, I've been able to do some research and discover more. James and Fannie's son, Harvey, brother to your Brice, is my great-grandfather. He and my great-grandmother, Sarah Canipe, never married. Here is what I have on James and Fannie's children: - Elizabeth, born 1842, married William Chapman - Malinda, born 1844, married Terrell Hoffman - Eliza, born 1846, married Alfred Hoyle - Harvey, born 1848, never married - Waightstill Avery, born April 14, 1850, married Suzanna Hoyle. I show them with eight children: Hester, Julius, Max, Sophronia Anner, Mary Emily, Bryson, James Lafayette, and Minnie Zidonia. Waithtstill died in Burke County on September 23, 1910 and is buried at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Burke County. As you can see, if my information is correct, Waightstill named some of his children after his brothers and sisters, which causes some confusion when you're trying to research these families. - Nicholas, born 1853 - Julius, born 1855, married Nancy McNeilly - Mary Emily, born 1858, married David Cook - James Pinkney, born 1860, never married - Brice Elijah, born 1862(?) - Sophronia, born 1864, married Lee Franklin - William Holden, born 1866, married Mary Carswell I grew up in Cleveland County, North Carolina, just about fifteen miles away from where our York ancestors were born and lived. We went up to visit mama's family often, and daddy would fish in those beautiful mountain rivers. Unfortunately, like many areas, much of the land owned by our kin is now developed and home to a golf resort. Part does remain protected National Park area, and York graves are inside that area. I have information about our family which I will be happy to share with you. It may come slowly; we are restoring a 1920's house, and right now a lot of my files are packed away. I'm afraid I didn't get all of it entered into a database before we had to pack up and store them. I am very happy to hear from you, and I promise I will send more...I think I may have some of it at work. I'd love to have any information that you are willing to share. It is very good to "meet" new kinfolk! Shelia Notify Administrator about this message?
