My Great-Great Grandfather was Nathan G. York who fought in the Civil War for the North even though he was from Alabama. He was given property in Alabama for his service and from what I have found out is was called the York Plantation and was near the Cleburne area. He fought for the North because he didn't believe in slavery. He had Blacks working on his farm but he paid them and gave them each an acre of land to call their own and work it and they gave him a portion of their crop.

He had a son named William Albert York who's wife's name was Margarit and they had a son named Jesse Marion York who had my mother Betty Ann York.

I do not know if this is the same Nathan as yours because I have no info on him and his wife or any other children in my printed research, however, I do have some census reports on a disc that I can go back and look at to see if there any other names that may match yours.

Maybe if your William had a wife named Margarit they will be one and the same. Can you check your info and see if any of what I have posted might match?
