NATHAN1 YORK, SR. was born Bet. 1814 - 1846, and died Bet. 1873 - 1929. He married MARGARET CAROLINE HOWELL Bet. 1848 - 1873. She was born 1834 in Georgia, and died Bet. 1873 - 1929.
Notes for NATHAN YORK, SR.:
Nathan York fought in the Civil War for the Union. He was from Alabama but he did not believe in slavery. He did have negros on his plantation but he did not treat them as slaves. He paid them and he gave them each a piece of land to live on and work. He took a small share of what they grew. He was also deeded some land for something he did during the war and the deed is signed by Pres. James Buchanan, who didn't believe in slavery either.
