Hello Zimmerman Researchers, I have been working on the Zimmerman family genealogy and have some questions about my line of the family. I have always believed that my ancestors were as follows: 1 Andrew Zimmerman and Anne Elizabeth Freyberger 2) Hans Michael Zimmerman and Anna Elizabeth Dodderer 3) Hans Michael Zimmerman II and Elizabeth Unknown 4) John Zimmerman (1752-1809) and Catherine Barbara Lutz who married in Frederick County, Maryland, 1773 5) Andrew Zimmerman and Ruth Ann Taylor who married in Frederick County, Maryland in 1796 and subsequently moved to Ross County, Ohio around 1800 and in 1835 moved to Hardin County, Ohio. I am a descendant of Andrew and Ruth Zimmerman through their son Obadiah Zimmerman. Obadiah’s daughter, Mary Ruth Zimmerman Davids was my great grandmother. I have been reading The Dodderer Family by Henry Sassaman Dodderer, published 1903. I found this book online at Google Books after googling the Dodderer family in relation to Hans Michael Zimmerman. Hans Michael Zimmerman (died March 1741) left a will. The contents of this will can be seen in this book: Page 57 shows that Hans Michael Zimmerman’s will is made on February 8, 1741 and probated March 4, 1741 in Pennsylvania. He mentions his wife Anna (Dodderer) Zimmerman, his eldest son, Michael (Hans Michael Zimmerman II), youngest son, George, and three daughters Anna “Elizabeth”, Veronica, and Catrina (Catherine). Page 115-116 states that Hans Michael Zimmerman II “Michael” moved to North Carolina. (His wife is named Elizabeth. They were probably married around 1754 or so.) He has a son named Hans Michael Zimmerman III (“Michael”) and a daughter, Catherine who later marries Daniel Smith. Hans Michael Zimmerman II “Michael” is dead before January 27, 1762. Letters of administration have been granted to his stepfather, Jacob Kurr in Pennsylvania. Michael Zimmerman III, Catherine Zimmerman Smith and her husband Daniel Smith, all of North Carolina, and their uncle, George Zimmerman of Turkey Hundred, Maryland, sell land in Pennsylvania to John Yund (Yount), 1783-1784. John Yount is the brother-in-law of George Zimmerman, married to George’s sister, Anna Elizabeth and the uncle to Michael III and his sister, Catherine Zimmerman Smith. This John Yount and his wife, Anna Elizabeth Zimmerman Yount sold their land to John Roder in 1787 and moved to Lincoln County, North Carolina. THE NORTH CAROLINA ZIMMERMAN FAMILY Michael Zimmerman (Hans Michael Zimmerman III) is found in the will of his mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman Killian in Lincoln County, North Carolina, March 1802. Elizabeth Zimmerman, the widow of Hans Michael Zimmerman II had married again to John Killian. Their first child together was born in April 1760 so the marriage took place shortly before this (1759 or so). That means her first husband, Michael Zimmerman, died before 1759 in North Carolina. In her will she mentions her son, Michael Zimmerman and her son-in-law, Daniel Smith. Apparently her daughter, Catherine, had died before she made her will in 1802. Michael Zimmerman III is found in land records in Lincoln County, North Carolina buying land from his half brother, Philip Killian, as late as October 1798. A Michael Zimmerman is also found in the 1800 census records in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Since Michael was born in the 1750’s and his history is in Lincoln County, North Carolina, he is definitely not John Zimmerman (1752-1809) who married Catherine Barbara Lutz 1773 in Frederick County, Maryland. So my question is who is this John Zimmerman who married Catherine Barbara Lutz in Frederick County, Maryland?? He is not the son of Hans Michael Zimmerman II and Elizabeth Zimmerman. I feel he is tied in with Andrew Zimmerman who came to Pennsylvania 1727, but whose son is he?? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry this post is so long!!
